This residential construction project involved the transformation of a townhome in Carlsbad, CA. The lead contractor on the job, Qualcraft Construction, recommended Holland’s to the homeowners who were looking to add unique, high-quality custom cabinetry throughout their home.
Holland’s crafted the kitchen cabinets using the Face Frame European cabinet-making technique where cabinets have a solid wood frame attached to the front of the cabinet box. Unlike traditional American-style cabinets, European construction lacks a front frame, allowing for a sleeker, more seamless appearance with concealed hinges and full overlay doors.
The exposed cabinet surfaces consisted of smooth, defect-free wood, making them an ideal canvas for achieving a flawless, high-quality finish when painted. The wood selected was similar in appearance to the wood flooring and other design accents found throughout the home.
For these homeowners, face frame European cabinets with paint grade exteriors helped every cabinet door and drawer exude sophistication. Coupled with the warm embrace of wood floors and the wood component of the range hood, the cabinetry created a seamless visual flow.
At the center of it all, a large island offered not only ample workspace but also seating on multiple sides. Stainless-steel appliances introduced a contemporary contrast, infusing the space with a dynamic energy that harmonized with the pristine white cabinets and counter tops.
The homeowners wanted every room to be unique, but they also wanted continuity with adjoining spaces. Holland’s carefully reintroduced green and blue shades from the kitchen backsplash into the base cabinets for the main bathroom vanity, while utilizing wood tones in the secondary baths. This created cohesion, but also allowed each bathroom to maintain its own character. We also carried through the white countertops from the kitchen and sleek cabinet doors and drawer faces, while changing out the hardware from stainless to brass.
In this townhome’s laundry room and hallways, every square foot was precious. Our goal was to create practical storage solutions that seamlessly integrated with other design elements found throughout the home. Working with our existing palette of colors and finishes, we were able to maximize functionality without compromising on aesthetics. With white cabinetry and countertops in the laundry, once-cramped spaces became airy and open. Hallway storage allowed us to bring a bit of color to the seas of white walls and cabinets, while also creating practical, visually pleasing storage solutions.
