This project at San Miguel Fire Station required new kitchen cabinetry and storage solutions in keeping with the rigorous demands of an active firehouse. The fire station leadership approached Holland’s Custom Cabinets with several goals and needs in mind:
Based on decades of experience working on commercial projects, Holland’s knew that plastic laminate exteriors would be durable enough to withstand the fast-paced nature of firefighting operations. These materials and their sleek finish also ensured easy clean-up and minimal maintenance (after all, firefighters have more important things to do than spend time cleaning the kitchen!).
Large, stainless pulls on drawers and cabinet doors were used to promote easy clean up and handling. The plastic laminate design also seamlessly complemented the stainless-steel counters and appliances, resulting in a bright, spacious area designed to accommodate hassle-free meal preparation and dining for rotating crews 24 x7.
In the adjoining hallway, our task was to provide ample storage for personal belongings as well as cleaning supplies and other sundry items. Rows of full-height lockers with lockable doors were installed, offering firefighters a secure area to store their gear. Internal shelving optimized inside locker space to fit various personal items. A large, open shelf storage area at the end of the hallways was created to provide easy access to stored cleaning supplies, paper goods, and implements.
The lockers and shelving used the same plastic laminate materials from the kitchen, reinforcing the look and feel of the overall space.
