Holland’s Custom Cabinets has had the pleasure of working with the owners of this La Mesa, California, property to craft custom cabinets in five of their homes over the years—a testament to the trust they put in our handicraft and our ability to deliver outstanding results. For this residence, the homeowners sourced materials from around the globe to achieve authentic old-world charm. This included Italian green stone and custom-made, hand-hewn crown moldings which we incorporated into the kitchen and bar areas.
Transforming antique furniture into functional modern cabinetry required significant rework, patience, and attention to detail by Holland’s artisans over a three-year period. Each piece of furniture, some hundreds of years old, was skillfully modified to accommodate contemporary conveniences while preserving historical integrity.
For example, the kitchen boasts cabinetry that combines new functionality with centuries-old pieces of furniture, while the bar features oak wood cabinetry designed to match one-of-a-kind antique onlays from a 14th-century church in Florence, Italy. Similarly, standout features in the bathrooms include 300-year-old pieces of furniture transformed to include modern plumbing.
Despite not being modern or trendy, this home’s elaborate and timeless design ensures it and its cabinetry stand out as pieces of art, capturing the essence of historical craftsmanship and modern convenience.
