Heart and Wellness Center is a San Diego County cardiology group that provides comprehensive cardiac, vascular diagnostic, and interventional services. They came to Holland’s Custom Cabinets as part of new construction/tentative improvements planned for their National City location.
As is the case with many of our commercial projects, we worked closely with both the client and the builder (Jacor Construction of Santee) to design workstation and storage solutions reflective of the Center’s commitment to clinical excellence and excellent patient experiences.
Since this project represented new construction within an existing building, we prioritized minimal disruption and cleanliness to ensure our activities did not impact patient care and staff efficiency. Because many elements of the overall project were still in the conceptual stage at the outset, flexibility guided our design, manufacturing, and installation schedules, allowing us to adapt to emerging and evolving issues along the way.
Solid surface laminates and plastics were used throughout on countertops, cabinets, and work surfaces to ensure cleanliness and durability.
In the reception area, standing countertops and desk-level workstations were integrated seamlessly to provide comfortable and ergonomic surfaces for greeting patients and performing reception and customer service activities. The area also contained a number of overhead and undercounter cabinets and storage solutions, customized to fit the space as well as supplies commonly used by the staff.
Similarly, the laboratory area featured standing countertops for greeting patients, workstations for receptionists and clinical personnel, plus a large benchtop area for computers, testing devices, and peripherals with overhead and undercounter storage, sinks, and seating.
This project also included storage and countertops for a staff break/lunchroom consistent with the clean, contemporary look achieved throughout the rest of the Center. Cabinets were custom fit to accommodate sinks, small appliances, and two large refrigerators.
Hall storage, clinical staff work areas, and patient exam rooms also incorporated the same design elements deployed in the main reception area, creating a cohesive look blending contemporary aesthetics with functionality and flexibility.
