A Power Partnership Trio
J.P. Walters Design is an award-winning firm that describes itself as being at the forefront of innovation, creating personal spaces that are carefully edited and stylistically integrated.
As a foundational figure in the design community, Walters sought to extend long-working relationships with Bothof Brothers and Holland’s, known for quality craftsmanship.
“Holland’s places equal importance on building trust with our partners as much as building quality cabinets. Our partnerships with designers like J.P. Walters are built on meeting their level of design and style to exceed customer expectations,” says Randy Schreibman, Holland’s Director of Sales and Marketing.
The Technical Mastery of Material Blending
The Encinitas project focused on purposeful design, solving unique architectural and material challenges to create a space with an organic and grounded yet elevated feeling. Walters partnered with Holland’s explicitly for its expertise in blending multiple materials to seamlessly merge new cabinetry with high-end, custom furniture commissioned years prior—a central requirement for honoring the home’s existing, magazine-featured aesthetic.
Holland’s successfully combined contrasting materials for a cohesive finish, seen primarily in the buffet cabinetry:
- Rift Walnut Veneer: Hand-selected by the client and designer from Hesser Hardwoods and utilized in the kitchen for a classic, natural texture.
- Synthetic Cleaf Melamine: Used for cabinet faces to provide a uniquely modern contrast.
- Natural African Mahogany: Used for exposed legs and open display areas, stained to match the home’s existing anchor pieces.
Holland’s loves working with unique spaces and materials that meet the designers or homeowners’ personal preferences. This project was especially enjoyable because of the unique materials and hexagonal layout of the kitchen. Holland’s provided customized solutions, including a sophisticated seating bench for the kitchen island, ensuring the aesthetic was not only matched but also enhanced with new, essential functional capabilities. The weight load and overhang of the granite on the custom island seating bench required exacting detail to ensure structural soundness.
“The team focused on creating the right blend of materials—from hand-selected veneer to synthetic products—to seamlessly match the home’s curated aesthetic while upgrading spaces needing a refresh,” adds Schreibman. “Within that elevation is a level of technical precision, customization, and seamless integration that makes Holland’s the choice for top-tier designers.”
A Legacy Sustained and Strengthened
The quality of the work in this project honored the home’s architectural nuances, and just as significantly, strengthened the designer-client relationship, leading to Holland’s being contracted for more projects with Jim Walters before his retirement.
“Multi-collaborative projects like this one really serve as a clear testament to the power of strong industry connections and Holland’s commitment to being good stewards of those relationships,” Schreibman says. “It was a pleasure to work with everyone on this project. The homeowners gave us high praise, which is important to us because our standards often exceed those placed on us by partners and clients.”
