Weary of spending time on their hands and knees searching the dark recesses of their existing kitchen cabinets and drawers, these homeowners desired more than just your typical update to their circa-1980s design—they wanted a full custom remodel to convert the outdated space into a highly functional kitchen dazzling with natural beauty.
Working with the clients, Holland’s Custom Cabinets opted for Walnut cabinets with a clear finish and Revere doors, creating a sophisticated look that was also durable and easy to clean.
With plenty of space to work with, we took advantage of high ceilings by making the upper cabinets taller and outfitting them with adjustable shelving, plus we crafted a large, center island to provide additional counter space, oversized drawers for storage, a prep sink, warming drawer, and a stand mixer pull-out/lift with ample storage below.
Capitalizing on the space these clients had to work with, we went with large, custom drawers throughout the kitchen, including under the cooktop and the large, center island.
This oversized storage, coupled with rugged extension slides provides easy access to cookware, kitchen gadgets, and other items—no more searching on hands and knees for these homeowners!
Other highlights include a custom-built, corner lazy Susan, pullout spice racks, a custom bar, integrated lighting in shelves, and custom lattice wine storage.
One of the top wants for these clients was the ability to hide kitchen appliances, such as their stand mixer, while not in use, but to also make them easy to access. We achieved this with a center island mixer lift, a double pullout trash can, and other modern conveniences.
As proponents of “no wasted space,” the center island drawers were built 28 inches deep to take advantage of the extra depth available there. Similarly, our handmade, lazy Susan turns an otherwise difficult corner space into an easy-to-access, highly functional area. You won’t find this anywhere else.
Other features include drawer inserts for silverware storage, tray storage above the double oven, a pullout spice rack to the left of the cook top, and upper cabinets with adjustable shelving (the shelves utilize our custom 1-1/4″ matching hardwood, making them strong and durable).
This “step-up” eating bar area brings a formerly under-utilized part of the kitchen to life. It features uppers with glass shelves and integrated lighting, LED-recessed lighting, lattice wine bottle storage, and a built-in wine beverage fridge.
