North Clairemont Whole-Home Transitional Cabinetry

In the heart of North Clairemont, a neighborhood known for its established homes and family-friendly atmosphere, one couple embarked on a journey to transform their house into a living space that felt open and elevated. This particular remodel project serves as a testament to the power of enduring partnerships between Holland’s Custom Cabinets, Viking Construction, and Elizabeth Aaron Interior Design. The result is a custom residential remodel that proves thoughtful design and strategic installation can turn any home into a masterpiece.

A Team to Trust

For a successful remodel, a team needs to work in harmony. The foundation of this collaboration is our deep-rooted, 40-year partnership with Rocky Peterson of Viking Construction. This relationship extends beyond the founding of Viking Construction, back to when Peterson and Holland’s Founder and Vice President, Bob Holland, both worked as subcontractors. In an industry where trust and reliability are paramount, Holland’s puts a high value on relationship-building with exceptional San Diego partners.

“Rocky’s very unique, probably one of the top ten contractors in San Diego County. He’s very thorough,” says Randy Schreibman, Holland’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “When we lay stuff out, it’s pretty much right on the spot. He makes installation a breeze.”

Elizabeth Aaron of Elizabeth Aaron Interior Design guided the creative vision for this North Clairemont whole-home transitional cabinetry project. “We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Elizabeth for years,” Schreibman says, “and her ability to translate a client’s aspirations into a tangible reality is remarkable. She’s got an incredible eye for detail and values our input. This collaborative spirit allows us to proactively spot opportunities to elevate our work in visually pleasing ways, ensuring the client’s expectations are exceeded.”

With decades of combined experience and multiple shared projects, we’ve refined this process to achieve clear communication, consistent processes, and stunning results. Schreibman explains, “Our long-standing partnerships with professionals like Rocky and Elizabeth are more than just business relationships. They are professional friendships built on years of trust and a deep respect for our individual expertise and combined strengths.”

North Clairemont Whole-Home Transitional Cabinetry

The homeowners faced a common North Clairemont challenge, making a smaller-footprint space feel grand and open. As Holland recalls, “They wanted an elegant, warm, and inviting space where they could comfortably spend their retirement.” Holland’s empowered that vision by delivering transitional custom cabinetry designed to maximize every available inch.

To address the main challenge of space, Holland’s worked meticulously, treating every cabinet as an opportunity. In the kitchen, that meant reducing bulky cabinets to improve the flow of the space and open up sightlines. The space retained standard-sized appliances, a unique feature in remodels for Holland’s. Innovative storage solutions, such as a custom pull-out pantry cabinet and roll-out shelves, ensure that every tool, dish, and coffee maker has its place.

The media room’s custom-built entertainment center is another prime example of this problem-solving approach. “Holland’s designed the entertainment cabinet around their large-screen TV,” Schreibman notes. “By creating a statement piece like this, it serves as a focal point and extends cabinetry architecture from the open kitchen to the living room.”

“For a home like this, it’s not about the square footage; it’s about the square inch,” explains Holland. “That’s where custom cabinetry makes all the difference.”

“We’re not just building cabinets, we’re building solutions,” Schreibman adds. “Another place may have cheaper cabinets, but the lack of customization exacerbates small space issues. At Holland’s, we craft custom cabinetry to address specific functional needs, elevate visual aesthetics, and improve the flow of the space. These are the kinds of adjustments that an off-the-shelf cabinet can’t provide.”

The Power of Finishing Touches

The North Clairemont whole-home transitional cabinetry is strategically used in each room, serving as a unifying element for the project. From fresh, white kitchen cabinets to a cherry-stained, alder entertainment center, and walnut primary bathroom cabinets, each artisan piece employs a different wood, stain, or paint color to create a unique twist on the overall aesthetic. Together, a serene, lived-in, yet high-end atmosphere comes to life.

“In a project like this, every material choice has a purpose,” Holland explains. “We chose a warm cherry stain for the main living area to bring in a classic, warm feel, but walnut in the primary bathroom to give it a richer, more luxurious feeling. It’s about creating different moods for different spaces within the same home.”

To complement the transitional style, ornate crown molding was applied to cabinet tops. This detail, a step beyond a standard finish, adds a layer of traditional refinement and draws the eye upward, further enhancing the feeling of space and grandeur.

The panel inset on the cabinets is a blend between traditional and transitional, Holland notes. “This is one of my favorite door styles,” he adds. The cabinetry achieves a look that is classic and refined but not dated.
